Brexit: Where we stand

With only two weeks to go until the intended Brexit date of March 29, 2019 the countdown has officially started. In the coming weeks, we will completely devote this i+r Newsflash to Brexit to keep you updated on the developments as they unfold. We will highlight different Brexit perspectives, which, all together, help you to prepare your business for every possible outcome.

Deal or no deal?
On March 12, 2019 the British Parliament, again, rejected Prime Minister May’s Brexit deal, further minimising the possibility of an orderly Brexit scenario. The day after, however, Parliament also reconfirmed its intention to avoid a no-deal Brexit scenario, though at this stage, no outcome is certain.

No-deal preparation in the Netherlands
On March 13, 2019 the IND has started sending out temporary residence permits in the form of a letter to British citizens registered in the Netherlands. This letter, in combination with a valid passport, will serve as proof of legal residency during the transition period. We highly recommend to ensure your British employees are correctly registered in the Personal Records Database (BRP) at their local municipality: the letter will be sent to the address at which they are registered.

We advise HR departments to actively inquire with their British staff whether they received this letter and to keep a copy thereof on file.
