On May 1, 2010 EU Regulation 883/04 entered into force. This Regulation coordinates in each country whether and where someone working within Europe is socially insured.

There is, however, a transition ruling under which the allocation rules of the old EU Regulation (1408/71) remain in force, as long as the situation existing on April 30, 2010 continues.

The transition ruling ends on May 1, 2020. This may result in persons covered by the transition ruling becoming socially insured in another country from 1 May 2020.

It is therefore important for everyone who works across Europe to find out in which country there will be a social insurance obligation after 1 May 2020.
