The European Union announced to temporarily close the borders as per March 19 in order to restrict non-essential travel in an effort to slow down the spread of COVID-19.
Citizens of the EU, the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area and their family members, people with a valid Dutch residence permit or MVV are allowed to (re-)enter the Netherlands. Exceptions apply to for example diplomats and medical staff. All Dutch citizens are advised to travel abroad only if strictly necessary. This measure is applicable for 30 days, but can be extended.
Furthermore, the IND has limited its services, and in particular the appointment desk services, to urgent matters only. As a result no Dutch residence permits will be issued until after April 6. Dutch embassies and consulates temporarily postponed the issuance of MVV’s.
Non-EU nationals in the Netherlands are advised to apply for renewal of their Dutch residence permit in case they are not able to leave the Netherlands due to COVID-19 before or on the date their Dutch residence permit expires. We can obviously assist.
